Well..my high school has 8 goalies for JV and Varsity and it did not exactly work out for me as a goalie freshman year, and l played as a defenseman and overall I am a better skater and everything, because l never really legitimately played ice hockey as a goalie. My family is really struggling right now and my dad does not pay child support. So l was wondering what the best things l can do to train as a goalie over the off-season and l can not do travel teams because my mom does not have such a flexibility in her schedule. Thank you.

well, if you live anywhere near a flyers skate zone, they have a session called stick and puck time, which is basically just skating around shooting and practicing. so you can take your gear there and have guys shoot on you, they love it. or if you're not in the philadelphia area, im sure other skating rinks have something similar.

1) sounds like u really like playing goal, so have fun when u do -- personally who cares if u play travel team or not. Enjoy house league, enjoy travel wherever u play
2) as for off season training, play street hockey (or road hockey or whatever u call it where u live). u can play a LOT of hockey & will get good practice working on ur angles, glove saves etc. Even 2 or 3 friends taking shots on u for hours is beneficial & fun.
3) for skills, try to talk to goalie coaches, find dvd is on how to play goal etc, but watch old hockey games paying closer attention to how the goalies play -- not just what they r doing correctly, but also what they r doing wrong.
4) if u r ever in need of goalie equipment (pads, gloves, skates etc) try ur local freecycle.org site. If nothing is listed, post a WANTED listing. l got rid of my old goalie equipment last year just that way.

Train at home, bounce a ball all day. Do bench hops. Stretch, jogg. Play street hockey. Work on your hand eye as much as posible. And look for the Book ''The art of Goaltending'' by Vladilsav Tretiak. Great training manual.
