hes been on fire lately and osgood has been playing like crap lately. im not saying they would of won but they need to get osgoods confidence up by letting him start against a shitty team. great game though as a wings fan l will admit dallas did alot of the dirty work last year by beating ducks and sharks in the playoffs. one thing about this game is wtf how many times will the net be coming dislodged. like 7x this game its insane. ref needs to call more penalties on that shit

lol moose the reason osgood has a winning record is because when he starts the wings score like 6 goals while he gives up 5. just check his last 9 games hes given up like 30+ goals. its awful. do some research before you start posting bullshit

Conklin would not have done any better.

l agree. l know Mike Babcock said he would be switching off between Conklin & Osgood & it was Osgood is turn to play, but it is not fair to the rest of the team to sit Conklin against the Sharks when he has been so hot lately & Osgood has been playing poorly. l still thought Osgood did a good job, though. He did not let in any weak goals & there was nothing he could do on the breakaway goals. At least there is still one more game to be played between theses two teams, it should be exciting to watch.

Ok, yes, Osgood continually, CONTINUOUSLY lets me down. Granted, a lot of the goals he let in were not his fault, but we need a goalie who can absolutely steal a game once in a while (and he did against, who was it, the Ducks?). He needs to come up big for the big games & steal games because that is why he is paid.

Conklin is more consistent, but honestly he is not much better than Osgood. He has been big when he has been needed this season, & he should definitely start over Osgood a majority of the time, but he is not a consistent-starter type goalie in the NHL. It is because Detroit is such a good team offensively that Conklin & Osgood have so many wins, but giving up 6 goals in a game is not acceptable under any circumstances.

l agree, Osgood needs to get his confidence back by playing some lower-caliber teams. Conks should play against the Coyotes & Osgood should start against Columbus after the All-Star break.

As for the Wings as a team, they need to step their game up & act as if every game is a playoff game. Re-watching the playoff games from last year, everything flowed better, passes were crisper, & lots more aggressive play from Stuart & Kronwall. This season, it seems like the defense is getting pounded by the opposition is forecheck wayyy too easily & there r a lot more giveaways, especially at the defensive zone blueline on the breakout. Honestly, l think they miss Dallas Drake more than they realize.

They have each won 15 games & almost identical records & l can assure u that it is not because the Wings' score so many goals. They have had more 1 goal games than anyone else this year.
The difference is consistency & Conklin has had more.
You can not tell me that is a matter of 4 months that Osgood has aged so much that he forgot how to win games or that he is so much slower than he was last year. Something has gotten into his psyche that has him all over the place.
l do give credit to the Sharks, they r a much improved team & some idiot said thanks to Dallas in last years' playoffs? Give me a break u fair weathered, wishful fan. NO ONE was going to stop the Wings' last season, they were destined to win. PERIOD.
This year, there r much more improved teams that r gunning for them. Whoever thought that Washington, Montreal, Boston & New York would be tops in the East?
Who thought or actually believed that Chicago, Calgary, Phoenix, Vancouver or Anaheim would be a contender? l mean, realistically-anyone in the Western conference can win it all & any of them can oust Detroit & San Jose.
Defense & goaltending has always won Championships. That can not be argued when it comes to playoff hockey.
Osgood had better wake up or his chances of defending the Cup will be gone in the blink of an eye come June.

By the way, to the person that said that San Jose was the best team in the NHL should do his/her homework. They have the best home record, yes & they r among the top 3 in scoring & goals against. But in the overall standings, Boston owns that by a mere 1 point. 3 points separates Boston, San Jose & Detroit for the Pres' trophy as of now, at this post & no one has scored more than Detroit as of tonight & no one has given up fewer goals that Boston.Who knew? lol

Conklin shutout the Sharks when the wings were at home. And the Wings played a good most game, better than today, did not allow 40+ shots. Osgood has been playing like crap lately? Osgood has been playing great since he came back from his injury, l do not see how he is been playing like crap. l do not see the need to start Conklin today, l am sure he will next game, or maybe throw Ozzie back in to get him a confidence-builder game.

l think either way, the Wings were screwed, the Sharks just came off there first regulation loss at home & were furious about it, & it showed in there play tonight.

EDIT: Yes, if u noticed since he came back from the injury, he has lowered his GAA significantly, & honestly, l think the defense is playing MUCH better in front of Conklin than Osgood. l am not trying to take anything away from Conklin, he is been playing great, but Osgood has been too. A LOT of the goals that have gotten by, he has not had a chance. He is made the saves he needed to make. I'd like to see u step in & face 40+ shots, especially the ones he faced, & not give up 5. l think he played well that game. There is a reason Ozzie is going into the top 10 in all time wins in the upcoming years. Ozzie played good, & he is getting back on track. Sounds like u have a case of being spoiled by Detroits success.
