Which American city has the best NHL fans and why?
Besides Detroit? l would have to say Minnesota

Detroit

Detroit because they have the Most Successful with 11 Stanley Cup Titles and the Fanbase in Detroit is very Loyal and this is why they call This place ''HOCKEYTOWN''.

Define ''best''....as in knowledgable, loyal, abundant, loud, rowdy?

Over the past decade, Detroit has brought in the most fans, & they r a pretty knowledgable bunch for the most part...we r not sure about the loyalties because they have not missed the play-offs in an eon & l am not sure what their attendance figures were when they stunk. If u watch their games over the past 18 months, u see huge chunks of empty seats...seems mostly due to the economy.

Chicago fans (oldtime) r a knowledgable bunch & in general their fans have not been loyal...their old arena was LOUD & they were rowdy.

Philadelphia fans r knowledgable, loyal (last in the NHL two seasons ago but 7th in attendance) & loud & rowdy.

Boston fans....SEE Chicago but not coming back in such high numbers.

NYR fans...there r 20,000 of them, they just all happen to be at Madison Square Garden.


l am going to say Detroit & Philadelphia.....Minnesota has some passionate fans as well (forgot them).

But about the Chicago fans. It is hard to talk about loyalty for a while before this year. They did not televise home games. You could not even keep up with the team. They loyalty was always there, it was just hard to show when you could not see half of the games. Luckily, things have changed this season. Games are now televised and hockey is beyond reborn in Chicago.

atlanta. there arena is always loaded

Buffalo, they never win anything important and the fans are still loyal throughout the years

Minnesota. Consistantly sold out.

Detroit

Gotta love a team that twirls an octopus!

Detroit. Best attendance away from the Joe, as in they help other teams sell more tickets. Ever catch a Wings road game? You can hear the Wings fans with their Go-Wings-Go chants, usually drowned out by the home team is crowd shortly after, chanting Detroit Sucks. l personally have been around since the mid 70 is as a Wings fan (the bad years) & their is no more passionate hockey fan base in the US as such in Michigan. A long dedicated fan base of knowledgeable hockey fans that endured a long drought & continued to support the Winged-wheel ever since the glory days of Gordie. It also helps that Michigan has a large (if not the largest in the US) contingency of amateur hockey players, so we know r hockey & love our team/s.

Minnesota has sold out every game since their inception.

Detroit has had a long history of strong support; the economy being in the toilet has been the biggest drag on attendance.

Buffalo has always had good support (again, economic issues have hurt them).

Philadelphia has always been well-supported.

Chicago and Boston are sleeping giants now fully awake.
