Hockeynut.......l think he plays with the Stars maybe.......also, the Moose are just one of six team affiliations.........they could still send him down, he will clear waivers........now, if they recall him then another team can claim him on re-entry waivers and they would only be responsible for half the contract with the Stars on the hook for the other half......l could see that happening.....since if they buy him out at the end iof the year, it costs 2/3 so, half is better than 2/3 and his new team gets him for an afforadable price (probably more of what he was worth too)

What he has done is not that disgraceful...he did not break the law, nobody was hurt. Sticks and stones is all he has ever done...........you think that is worthy of being banned or something? It is a load of crap. Six games for making a slightly off-color remark? It is absolutely ridiculous. This is the last time l will speak on the subject.

BeerSlayer: What exactly is his history within the league? What has he done that is so horrible? Putting a hand in Martin Brodeur is face? The guys job is to be annoying which is something he excels at. He made a ''slightly'' off-color remark & he gets 6 games for it? The punishment is not even close to fitting the crime in this case for a guy who actually has had ZERO suspensions on his record from the NHL.

Based on his past. l think it is about correct. Seeing as it is mid-season. would have rather seen 10 games.

His past ''on ice'' incidents as well as some of the comments he is made. Bettman is making up for lost opportunities to suspend him. In GB is mind, the 6 makes up for those lost chances. While listening to the likes of the Jim Rome show amongst others.. l get the feeling that the rest of the sports world wished they would be just as tough on trying to keep their game clean as the NHL does. Whether u think the 6 games is right or wrong. l for one am glad we r not in the situations that the NBA/NFL/MLB r in.
PS. l do not want to be on the ice with a player that all he got was a slap on the wrist fine & is undergoing ''anger management'' ..neither would l want to be next to a co-worker that is holding a pipe wrench that has been ordered into anger management.

Too harsh. there was no physical damage. They should have just let him play. Jarome would have given him a better lesson on the ice anyways. l think 2 games, a fine would have been suffice.

the anger management part is crap (unless Avery actually asked for it, just to ''fake'' his remorse. just shows how dumb & smart he is at the same time. l initially took it (just read the 1st paragraph) that Bettman levied it on him. But if Avery asked for it, then he is smarter than what most people credit him.)

i'm sick of seeing this issue in the media. i'm ok w/ it being discussed in this forum, at first. since this decision is a new development, there will be a spike of initial Q&A, but then it needs to go away. l think some of the users r being way too black & white, way too idealistic, & way too hypocritical. but i'm not perfect either. his apology is a joke. yet people were looking for it. does that mean that the same fans calling for his head for making a non-specific comment, r the same who actually will take his apology literally? please! the epitome of naivete! as if when he said it, he had NO idea that he'd get into trouble. free speech - agreed. l had made some ''free speech'' comments when this first happened. l think that some took them the wrong way. this is NOT a free speech issue. the NHL is not a country. nor is it governed by free speech. the players are, & should be, held accountable for their speech. specifically w/ regards to reflecting the league. but they can have their own opinions too. u just have to make sure that they r not in conflict. Avery did not besmurch the officiating. anyway, my point was that it is ironic that a continent who is so sensitive to their free speech being preserved for them as citizens is SO quick to judge when anyone who is famous (and thus under a microscope) says anything that rubs them the wrong way. as if these celebrities r accountable to the general public. it just seems disproportional.

Well, there is not question that it was inappropriate & had absolutely nothing to do with the game of hockey. l do think that a 6 game suspension is a little much. Let is be clear, l hate Sean Avery. He is a jerk, plain & simple.

In regards to whoever said free speech. The case is that he can say what he wants, but he does represent the league & his team. They can impose a penalty in that kind of case. l definitely think that a fine probably would have done it, & then let the team deal with it as they wanted to deal with it, but can u really expect anything less than this type of comment from Sean Avery? This is who he is! If he is upset that his ex-girlfriends r finding different hockey players to date, maybe he should sign up for e-harmony & be matched up the right way, or something.

In a perfect universe, Avery has to do what he is never had to do. Answer the bell. Not turtle, but answer the bell. Be accountable in the most barbaric sense. Be told by the official ''you're on your own, bubba'' and, as they say.let 'em go. Not that would ever happen, but my sense is that this would solve so much of this entire litany.

l think he should have gotten filmed being beaten up by Dougie is woman and then had it put up on the internet. That would be a fair punishment.

6 games, 10 games 20 or more.. IMO l do not think it is going to matter. Dave Tippitt ( 2-p's, 2-t's) has made it clear he does not think Avery will be able to ''fit in'' with his team anymore. Word here is the Stars tried to waive him, & send him to Manitoba, but even they did not want him! Where is he going to play? l think we have seen the last of Mr. Avery in the NHL.

The only thing that may be a sticker in between the toes is the fact that he has a guaranteed contract. What, $15 + million over four years? l do not see why the Stars can not simply waive him, & cite conduct unbecoming, & all that garbage. If management feels that strongly about him not coming back, what r their options? l do not know about all the wordage in today is contracts, perhaps You, Bob or LITY can shed some light on that subject..

6 games is too much. l thought the few he missed already was enough. Hopefully we can stop talking and hearing about this now.

l do not think Bettman decided on a set number of games. l think he chose time & in this case he chose 2 weeks. It just happens to be that the Stars play 6 games in those 2 weeks.

l am not sure anger management is the best thing. He was not provoked, it did not seem to be anger that brought it all on. l think he needs training in what is appropriate to say in public & what should be kept behind closed doors. He needs to find out why he needs so much attention. l do not think anger management is going to help.

l think he has played his last game in Dallas & probably the NHL. It is too bad because he is only & 28 he still does have a decent amount of hockey talent. He traded his career for a few days worth of attention.

l have moved on. It has been a non-story to me since l first heard of the ''offense''.

Besides, l am still looking for the definitive answer to who is better: Crosby or Ovechkin.

It is too much for that one incident. l think it should have been 3 games tops. Anger management. l do not think that was necessary. He is not an angry person, he is just messed up. Psychiatrist appointments would make more sense, and l am being serious. He plays with dolls, loves to make trouble for his own enjoyment, and feels no remorse. Clearly something is troubling him from his childhood.

Sorry to come in late. When this first started, & even though l can not stand him, l first though a $50,000 fine would be enough, then l figured he get the 2-3 games, as Bettman said he would not make his decision until today. It did not make sense to give him more than a boarding penalty suspension.

Then yesterday my 6 year old son asked me point blank'' Dad, what r sloppy seconds?'' After making a weak reference to a Sloppy Joe sandwich which l do not think he believed, we moved on. That is why he got the 6 games. Just for the fact l was forced to lie to my son, l am going to agree with Beerslayer. The league does not need a clown like this running his mouth about sexual situations young fans wo not understand, but will be curious about after hearing it. Unless anybody else here is a parent of a young hockey fan & can convince me differently. l would rather let him watch a hockey fight, as l can explain why it happened. Will l be forced now to not let my son watch a game because Avery is involved , because he WILL ( not if) open his mouth again/.

Under the CBA he will clear waivers and be sent to the AHL. His salary will be maintained and he will rot in Norfolk or where ever else he ends up.
