Ok so is this a new rule? ''If a player other then the Goalie touches the puck in the crease.'' as it was stated, a penalty shot is awarded. So my Defenseman can not tuck a puck into my pads if it is in the crease? Odd?

Fellings?
Is this only because it was pushed by hand?

That was a bit if a wimpy call but l believe it was because he used his hand. However he did not close his hand on the puck, just shoved it under osgood is pads. He should have used his forearm. Oh well, lesson learned

It is not a new rule....you can not touch the puck with your glove in the crease.
l think however that it used to be that it was only in the waning minutes (last 2 l think) that a penalty shot would be called....any other time and it would be a delay of game.

It is rule 55 C covering the puck

No defending player, except the goalkeeper, will be permitted to fall on the puck, hold the puck or gather the puck into the body or hands when the puck is within the goal crease.
For infringement of this Rule, play shall immediately be stopped and a penalty shot shall be ordered against the offending Team, but no other penalty shall be given.

That rule has always existed, & it is one of the few rules that is called consistently well.

The answer to ur last question is...yes, ur defenceman CAN tuck the puck under the goaltender, but he must do it without touching the puck with his hands.

The general rule of thumb is that the D-man can bat the puck with his glove (puck/glove contact is minimal), but he can not close his hand on the puck, nor can he use his glove to 'push/shovel' the puck under the goalie. I've seen the latter happen in the NHL occassionally & not get called, but it usually does.

There is (or was) an NHL rule that stated that no player could close his glove on the puck anywhere on the ice. Doing so was a 2 minute penalty, or a penalty shot if a defending player soes so in the crease. That rule predated the era where the puck spends a lot of time in the air (In the 60s if a player grabbed a puck in mid-air & dropped it to the ice like they do today - it was a 2 minute penalty). l am not sure if the existing rule is ignore, rewritten, or been dropped altogether.

the rule is any player on the team playing defense can not cover the puck up with his body in the goalies crease. he can kick it into the goalie or shot it back into his own goalie but he can not physically cover it.

Lame call indeed, and l was at that game. Osgood really could have stopped that shot. But really, questionable calls and non-calls were on the docket all night, one of note is in the closing minutes when a Detroit player ( l believe Kris Draper) was being held VERY OBVIOUSLY by an Avalanche player for around 10 seconds right in front of the referee.

Well it is not a new rule, and l do not mind it. Plus, penalty shots are not necessarily all that successful. Teams only score about 1/3 of the time when they have penalty shots. That one in the Wings game last night was shot by a guy who was shooting his first penalty shot ever and Chris Osgood just got owned. Plus, the Red Wings had plenty of other opportunities to win that game, they just got their asses handed to them by Raycroft.

Yes As others have stated you as a player other then the goalie can not use your hand to touch the puck in the crease at all. It has been called at every level l have seen as it is a USA hockey rule to boot .The defenseman can only use his stick to put the puck under the goalie or sweep it out of the crease. The other team does get a penalty shot .
